Havana Club’s Icónica Unión is the sixth and final expression in its ultra-premium Iconica rum series, blending four aged Cuban rums.
Havana Club has unveiled Icónica Unión as the capstone release of its elite Icónica Collection. This ultra-aged Cuban rum is crafted from four reserve blends and completed through Havana Club’s signature continuous ageing process. That method – pioneered in the 1970s by Maestro Ronero Don José Navarro – involves repeatedly marrying and re-barrelling mature rums so older reserves enrich younger ones. As Difford’s Guide observes, the Icónica range is “more than just a range of ultra-prestige rums” – it’s “Cuban craftsmanship” from Havana’s legendary cellars. Unión revives a legacy dating back to a limited 2015 cigar-pairing edition: the name “Unión” originally denoted a rum created by master blender Asbel Morales and a cigar sommelier to accompany Cohiba cigars. The new release completes the modern Iconica lineup, which includes Selección de Maestros, Gran Reserva 15 Años, Don Navarro, Tributo and Máximo Extra Añejo.
Icónica Unión is a 40% ABV rum (70 cl) made by blending four distinct mature Cuban rums. Rather than carry an age statement, each component is given extra time in cask and returned to the solera-style cycle, emphasizing flavor integration over a simple number. Havana Club notes that Unión is “fundamentally about blending” – achieving balance between sweetness, fruit, spice, oak and tobacco – through the Maestros del Ron’s expertise.
The finished rum pours a luminous amber. Havana Club describes the nose as rich with caramel, honey and dried-fruit aromas, leading into toasted wood, citrus peel and gentle tobacco notes on the palate. Reviewers emphasize its elegant balance and subtle smoke- and coffee-like undercurrents. In short, Unión is complex yet refined – intended for sipping neat alongside a premium Cuban cigar.
Unión comes in the Icónica series’ signature decanter – a sculpted hourglass-shaped glass bottle meant to symbolize the time invested in ageing. Gold foil traces the silhouette and the image of Havana’s golden Giraldilla statue appears on the bottle, reinforcing the Cuban heritage. The box is reported to be 100% cardboard (no plastic) as part of Havana Club’s push for sustainable luxury design, without sacrificing the collection’s elegant look.
Launched globally in late 2026, Icónica Unión is offered through select specialist retailers. It carries a European RRP of about €350 (≈US$395) for a 70 cl bottle. This price places Unión in the very top tier of rum pricing – closer to high-end cognacs or limited-edition whiskies than everyday spirits. (For context, Havana Club’s Máximo Extra Añejo retails at €2,500 per bottle.) The new Unión is a limited production edition, aligning with similar runs (e.g. Tributo 2025 was limited to ~2,967 bottles). It has already earned industry accolades; for example, reports note Unión won a Gold medal at the Luxury Spirits Masters 2026, underlining its premium quality.
Havana Club is positioning Icónica Unión as the ultimate expression of Cuban rum artistry. As Master Blender Asbel Morales states, each Icónica bottling “encapsulates the mastery of Cuban rum-making, a legacy now recognised by UNESCO as a World Intangible Heritage”. The brand’s marketing narrative highlights Cuban heritage, continuous ageing, and the union of rum with Cuban culture – from cigars to cuisine and fashion. Marketing head Nathalie Parte notes Unión “completes the Icónica Collection while building on [Havana Club’s] heritage and craftsmanship,” and is meant to be discovered through elevated experiences spanning gastronomy, culture and contemporary luxury.
For brand owners and C-suite leaders, Icónica Unión offers a case study in premium spirits strategy. It reinforces Havana Club’s image as a heritage Cuban icon while tapping trends toward premiumization and sustainability. By pairing with Cohiba (two famous Cuban brands) and designing luxe packaging (fluted decanter, Giraldilla icon, recyclable materials), Havana Club creates strong emotional and lifestyle associations. At €350 retail, Unión emphasizes that rum can enter true “luxury spirits” territory – a valuable statement in markets where rum historically lagged behind whisky and cognac in prestige. In sum, Icónica Unión is less about volume sales and more about brand-building: it underlines Havana Club’s craftsmanship credentials, appeals to collectors and affluent connoisseurs, and generates buzz that can lift the entire brand portfolio.
